Background information
One of our six regional parks, Eagle Creek Park is the largest park in Indianapolis and one of the largest municipal parks in the United States. The park includes almost 1,400 acres of water and over 3,900 acres of land. J.K. Lilly (Eli Lilly & Company) owned the land and gave it to Purdue University in the late 1950's. The University later sold the land to the city of Indianapolis. A dam was built to control flooding and the result is how we know Eagle Creek today. It was established as a park in 1962.
